Fall 2015: Cultural Diversity Festival (Hubbard Park)

Hi guys! Center for Student Involvement and Leadership (CSIL) of the University of Iowa had organized Cultural Diversity Festival this weekend. Being the last festival of its kind, we are obliged to participate. This festival was meant to celebrate and introduce the public to the miscellaneous cultures from all around the world. Even though the rate of participation has been decreasing since previous years’ festival, MSSUI would love to grab the opportunity to be one of the vendors and introduce Malaysia globally. We decided to sell Malaysian food that included satay with peanut sauce, traditional curry puff, sirap bandung, seri muka cake, and roti jala. We estimated around 300 servings for selling.

In order to make our booth more interesting, we exhibited the Malaysian traditional game, ‘Congkak’, which is more known as ‘Mancala’ from around the world. We also decorated our booth with Jalur Gemilang and Batik to make it merrier and attract more locals. We were astonished that we were able to sell out all of the food that we have prepared. We also received compliments from many customers that came to our booth because they truly enjoyed our Malaysian food.

Some of the locals that visited our booth.
We are selling fast!

Since CSIL will stop organizing the same event again in the future, there will probably be a similar event organized by Campus Activities Board like Taste of Asia so that our Malaysian Student Society could still participate to promote our Malaysian food and cultures.
